Purchase BurnSim

A single-user BurnSim license costs $49.00 for personal use, or $149.00 for commercial use. Students and educators with a .edu address pay nothing.

Checkout is handled by Stripe. We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover, and card details are entered on Stripe's own payment page — they never reach us. You'll be asked which email address to license, so you can use your work address even if the card is in someone else's name.

BurnSim is free for students

If you have a .edu email address, simply click Help → Activate and activate your installation with your .edu email address. You will receive an email to validate your address. Once you click the link in that email you can complete your activation and will have a fully functional BurnSim installation.

If you are a student at a non-US educational facility which uses something other than .edu for email addresses, try the above process. Many non-US educational email domains are already in the list of allowed EDU domains. If it doesn't work, contact us to have your domain added.

What a license covers

Both paid licenses work the same way: they entitle one person to install and use BurnSim. The only difference is what that use may be. A personal license ($49.00) covers personal, non-commercial use. A commercial license ($149.00) covers business and professional use by one named user. A license is per person, not per company or per seat pool — if two people at a business use BurnSim, that is two commercial licenses.

BurnSim license purchases are non-refundable.

How many computers can I install on?

There is no limit on how many times you install BurnSim over the life of your license. The limit is on how many computers hold an active install at one time, and that number is five. Reinstalling Windows, replacing a drive or moving to a new machine does not cost you a license.

If you reach five and need another slot, you don't need to buy anything or wait on us — manage your own installs. Enter your license email address and you'll be sent a link that lists the computers currently using your license, so you can release the ones you no longer use. Reasonable limits apply to how often installs can be released; if you are outside them, or you need more than five active installs, contact us.

If it becomes clear the licensing policy is being abused — several people running under one single-user license — the install limits will be enforced and the license possibly revoked.

Eligibility and export control

BurnSim is US-origin software and is subject to United States export-control and sanctions law. Licenses of every kind are issued at our discretion, and we may decline or withdraw one where we believe supplying it could present export-control, sanctions or restricted-party risk — for example an organization with a defense or weapons-development role, or a destination subject to US sanctions. If we decline a purchase on these grounds we will refund it, unless we are prohibited by law from doing so. This affects very few buyers; it is clause 19 of the license agreement, and the activation page explains it.

After you purchase

A connection to the internet is required for the activation process (a manual process is available for machines with no network connection). Once activated, an internet connection is not needed.

Once you have purchased a license, open BurnSim and select Help → Activate BurnSim. The activation dialog will open — read and follow the instructions in that window. You will have to repeat the activation for each machine you install BurnSim on, or if you reinstall the operating system.

License activation takes up to one full business day.
